Dear Deputy,

I am pleased to attach information in relation to my Department’s Trading Online Voucher Scheme which is specifically designed to help small businesses nationwide to trade online. I am sending you material on the Scheme should you wish to promote it among eligible businesses in your constituencies. Companies that remain offline are missing out on a significant opportunity to capture some of the €14,000 worth of business transacted online every minute - up to 70% of which goes overseas.

I want to significantly increase uptake across every city, provincial town and rural area. We know that traditional indigenous small businesses are slower in leveraging digital to reduce costs, drive innovation and expand markets. Of the 220,000 or so micro-enterprises, representing 92% of all businesses in Ireland, it is estimated that at least 150,000 are not trading online.
Together, we can actively encourage business owners to access this support and reap the benefits in terms of increased growth, sales and exports. According to surveys on the enterprise impacts of the Scheme, businesses grow on average by 21%, employ 35% more people and 60% export for the first time. Moreover, urban and rural based businesses benefit equally from this online opportunity.
Attached is a brochure outlining the Scheme and further material, including case studies and video testimonials, is available on my Department’s website at www.dccae.gov.ie/tradingonlinevoucher<http://www.dccae.gov.ie/tradingonlinevoucher>;.
Work is underway in my Department to enhance the Scheme so that more businesses are supported to trade online. A series of regional trading online events will take place throughout the year, commencing in Cork and Galway on 8th and 15th March respectively, followed by Dublin on 3rd April, with events in Kilkenny and Cavan to be scheduled later in the year. These events which are being organised by my Department, in conjunction with Local Enterprise Offices (LEO), are open to all businesses interested in digital trade. Business owners will get the opportunity to learn directly from experts in the digital field, connect with their peers and receive advice and support from LEO staff. Businesses wishing to book their free place can access the booking form via my website at www.dccae.gov.ie/tradingonlinevoucher<http://www.dccae.gov.ie/tradingonlinevoucher>; or directly via their LEO. Relevant contact details of individual LEOs are attached also for your convenience.
Should you require further information on the Trading Online Voucher Scheme, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely,
Denis Naughten T.D.
