Credit Unions

This week in the Dáil I spoke on the debate about the future of our Credit Unions. Unfortunately the Government are heaping red tape, regulation and lending restrictions upon Credit Unions and their members. It's another Government attack on communities. I also raised the fact the local Limerick Credit Unions are having their investments in the IBRC (formerly Anglo Irish Bank) completely burned, whilst the Government can instruct the Special Liquidator to pay out on these investments they are refusing to do so.

Here's a video of some of my contribution to the debate -

Attended the opening of the new road scheme at Barna, Newcastle West today. The official opening was performed by Mayor Cllr Liam Galvin and Cllr Michael Collins. Well done to all associated with this great project which has improved road safety immeasurably on a stretch of road that has unfortunately claimed so many lives over the years. Huge credit due to Seamus Collins and the Barna Road Action Committee for their positive campaigning. Also the Council and the NRA along with the landowners and the contractors deserve special mention also.

Interesting debate last evening hosted by Limerick Youth Service on the challenge of mobilising the youth vote at the next general election. Thanks to all who participated and in particular to David Boyce of Colaiste Mhuire in Askeaton who arranged the debate and to Catherine Kelly of Limerick Youth Service who chaired the debate.

BRUFF - JFK Memorial Address 2015

Along with Cllr Mike Donegan we met with the Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles Brown and Eileen Irwin and the annual JFK Address yesterday. This years address was given by MEP Sean Kelly. Thanks for the invite and well done to all in Bruff associated with the growing success of the Thomas Fitzgerald Center. I was glad to be of assistance to the Thomas Fitzgerald Center committee earlier this year and will of course be only too glad to do so again.
